4 Years Old - Birthday Questionaire

About to start a round of catch up posts.  For 3 weeks it's been pretty much non-stop work and taxes and events.  Things are finally starting to slow down...a little...but, catching up on blogging is a big priority.

I wanted to make sure to do another birthday post for Kinley.  Her birthday party was on Friday the day before her real birthday so we had another full day of celebration on Saturday.  we all started out the morning taking Kinley a waffle in bed with a candle and she got to follow a balloon path out of her room to a couple presents she could open with breakfast.

After breakfast we went to 2 birthday parties, an easter egg hunt (but, more on those later) and church...so, our 5th event for the day was a big family birthday dinner at my parents house.  It was so fun having a bunch of family there to just relax and celebrate Kinley.  All her grandparents were there and Bart & Olivia were still in town and Mendy & Alex and Mendy's family...it was so fun.

She had so much fun opening presents by the pool and immediately trying on all her clothes and playing with toys.

Apparently Uncle Alex's beard needed a brush. IMG_3312
After another round of cake and happy birthday later and this 4 year old was tired and fully celebrated.

One of my favorite things I did again this year was ask Kinley her Birthday Questionnaire.  It was fun to see how her answers changed or didn't change from last year.  Some of the questions seem like they could get a little repetitive over the years so I may have to change it up a bit sometime. But, for now, I love it.

We went to the doctor for your 4 year old check up and you are tall and thin and healthy. You are 80% in height and 20% in weight...same as you have always been. You also had to take a hearing and vision test for the 4 year old class next year and you rocked it. I was worried you might not want to put on the headphones or tell a nurse all your letters out loud but you did awesome and didn't miss a letter or sound.
 I am proud of you!

Kinley, you bring the brightest moments to our everyday.  You are like a ray of sunshine in our lives.  You are happy and so full of joy.  You sing all day long and we always say that's how we know if you are happy or not.  You narrate your life in song....a dream come true for this mommy.

You are so kind and love to play with everybody.  You have the sweetest, nurturing spirit towards Ty and any friend who might be upset or need help.  It is such a joy to see.  You are an incredible big sister.  You are so patient and loving and gentle.  You are excited to see Ty every morning..you always want him to join in and play with you and whoever else is around.  You find a role for everyone to play...even Ty.

You are also a little fireball.  You are opinionated and strong willed.  For example...your clothes.  You are very particular about your clothes and what you will wear. No shorts, no jeans, no pants.  Only skirts and dresses....only.  If tights must be worn...a skirt must go on top.  No matter how I bribe or beg you to try something new, you won't do it.  You like what you are comfortable with and new things are not your fave.  New food, activities, anything...we really have to talk it up and get you excited to want to try it.  In some aspects you are fearless but, in others you are extremely hesitant.  You are strong-willed and sometimes quick tempered but, you also have such a tender heart.  Sometimes it seems you just can't help yourself and have to do exactly what I am telling you not to.  But, your heart is so tender and you always feel bad and apologize and say you will try to do better next time.  Your precious intent is so genuine and I just love the heart you have.

You are so smart, Kinley.  Your memory and imagination both blow me away all the time.  You will remember a particular detail of an activity or situation we did once...or the lyrics to a song...or the details of a book we read once....or the location of a missing item that maybe fell behind the couch 3 weeks ago.  It's amazing.  Whenever we cannot remember something or find something, we always make sure to ask you first.  We are never surprised when you know more than we do.

You are so inquisitive and ask questions constantly.  You want to know about when I was a kid ....or a story about yourself ....or a trip we took one time...and you always ask questions about life and death and heaven and God.  Such hard questions now that I don't always know how to answer.  But, I love that you are asking.  It is challenging and thought-provoking and totally reassuring how we begin searching for greater meaning and purpose at such a young age.  God designed us to yearn for Him and want to learn about Him from birth and you are a true example of that.  I pray that God gives the words and wisdom to Dad and I to answer all your questions appropriately so that they lead you to Jesus.

You are my kid...so, I could go on and on and on about how wonderful I think you are.
But, for now, I just want you to know that we love you, our big 4 year old girl, more than you can ever know.
