Cannon Cope Harrison

There is just way too much to say about the birth of Cannon to say in one blogpost.
Cannon is the answer to so many prayers and such a blessing to our family.

I was one of the lucky few who was privileged to be in the room with Mendy when Cannon was born on May 9, 2016.  She was such a trooper and labored all day pretty much and could not look more beautiful during it all.

Mendy had Kristen & Allison make some Best Day Ever shirts for the family on Cannon's birthday.

It was my first time being in the room when a baby was born that wasn't my own and it was so, so different and just so incredible.
 Mendy was amazing.
She worked hard and tirelessly for what felt like forever and it was so inspiring.
What was also so incredible was the women and support system in there with Mendy.
We were surrounding her and cheering her on and were holding our breath right alongside her.
It felt like we were back in the old days when all the women in the family would go in the house and help with the birth.
It felt just like it should be.
So many prayers and so much encouragement and SO much joy.

And Cannon was and still is PERFECT.
He has been such a joy and has kept us so grounded in the weeks since his birth.
I got to be there that first evening when they weighed and measured him.
Get ready for an insane amount of baby pictures of not even my own baby.
I just can't help it.

Mendy's recovery process did not exactly go as planned and that first night Cannon was born was one of the worst of Alex's life.
After we all left to go home and sleep and leave them to relish their time alone as a family of three, things started to go downhill for Mendy.
She had an extremely rough night and ended up having to go into emergency surgery before we even woke up the next morning.
Pretty sure it took a few years off of Alex's life going through that night on his own the first few hours being a dad.
We got this beautiful picture of Mendy as we woke up that first morning that she was out of surgery and cuddling Cannon.

We spent every day at the hospital that week.
As much as I could be there, I was.
We learned more and more each day with each passing nurse how close we were to losing Mendy. There were additional procedures, blood transfusions, medicine IVS, oxygen tubes.  She was covered.
We are so, so thankful and overwhelmed that God protected her.

I had so, so much help from my mom and many friends with kids and meals all so I could be there with Mendy and Alex for support and to help with Cannon.
And I held him as much as I could while Mendy recovered.

At Mendy's request, I even did some skin to skin with Cannon and loved every second.

This picture is from Stacee who kept all 6 of our kids at my house one evening so that Ben and I could go be with Mendy and Alex and Cannon.
They went on a neighborhood walk and everyone, even Dylan, picked up a walking stick.

After several days, when the finally came home, seeing Mendy and Cannon home healthy and safe was the best sight I have ever seen.

I am not even exaggerating when I say I have been so, totally spoiled in the amount that I get to see Cannon.
Every.Single.Day. I go over and hold him even for just a few minutes.
It's like my eyes need to see that Mendy and Cannon are home and well and healthy to be able to believe it.
Such a dream that they are only one street away.
It makes the daily drop-in just too convenient. Cannon Cope Harrison Cannon Cope Harrison Cannon Cope Harrison Cannon Cope Harrison Cannon Cope Harrison Cannon Cope Harrison Cannon Cope Harrison

He took a few early field trips to our house too for dinner and just to give Mendy and Alex a change of scenery.

After a about a week of my kids begging like crazy to hold Cannon and complaining that everyday when we go over to Minnie and Alex's they "never get to hold him because you always do" I finally let them have some turns.

You can tell Cannon is really hurting for attention and never gets any love.

Oh what a joy these first couple weeks with Cannon have been.
Mendy is slowly still recovering but, we are beyond thankful for our Dr. and friend, Martin, who has cared for Mendy so wonderfully.

We plan on all going to donate blood on Cannon's birthday each year to hopefully help some other families who need blood transfusions in the future.

Oh Cannon, you are worth it all and we love you so!

Mother's Day

We had a fun double celebration on Mother's Day.
We had lunch over at the Harrison's with Gary and Cheryl and Mendy and Alex and all of Mendy's family.
Mendy was going into the hospital that night to prep for Cannon's induction so she had the whole family in town!
We had a fabulous lunch and enjoyed some relaxing family time.
I am so thankful for the greatest mother in law ever in Cheryl.

It is just like her to host so many on her special day.
She is always a "more the merrier" type of person and loves being with family sharing a meal.
She works so, so hard at work but always makes sure that her time with us is focused and intentional.
She treasures every moment with her whole heart and never wastes a minute not telling us how thankful she is.
Her most famous line is "my cup runneth over" and she always wants us to know we are her greatest blessing.
And I couldn't be more thankful for her because she gave me my greatest gift in Ben.  I am so thankful!

Then for dinner we had my mom and family at our house.
Olivia had to leave town for work that evening and we hated that she couldn't be there. She was the only thing missing! We had Palio's pizza for dinner and it turned out to be a beautiful evening and we spent most of it outside in our backyard under the lights on the deck.

Kinley, Ty, Dylan and Anson played basketball, baseball, with the water table, jumped in the bounce house. It was so fun!

Ty has been very into "making cabins" (aka forts) everywhere in every room with every blanket, pillow, surface of our entire house. This night they made Kinley's desk in her room into a fort and everyone had to take a turn in it.
  Mothers day Mothers day

It would be easy every day to celebrate my mom but mother's day just gives us a good excuse.
She is most joyful with her kids and grandkids and there is no place she would rather be. My mom is the most selfless person I know. She gives so, so much of her time to help me with the kids each week. Not just on her scheduled "work day" where I go into the office but everyday.
I know she picked Kinley up from school more than I did this year.
If Ben is ever out of town for work, she comes over and takes Kinley to school too.
She babysits at night every time Ben and I have have a Bass Hall date night.
She calls me daily just see how she might be able to help.
She's done all this and over the past year shared so much of the responsibility of caring for her own parents.
Doctors appointments, errand running, laundry, meal cooking, or just sitting and being with them.

She is serving someone every single day.
She might help me three days in a row and then go over and take care of Anson for a few days too.

And she does all this not just because she is selfless and serving and helpful but also just because she LOVES our kids.
 She is invested so much.
She loves them with all her heart and they LOVE her back. When anything special or exciting happens to help during the day, they want to call Honey about it.
They miss her if they haven't seen her in a day. When Dylan picks up anything that resembles a phone, he says "Hi Honey!"
And its not just my kids.
They call her because I call her......all the time.
She is my best friend and I could not be more thankful for her.
Mother's day is just one day amongst a thousand that I could celebrate my mom!
  Mothers day> Mothers day

I always love so much what the kids make for me at school. Kinley made me a "bouquet" of flowers and wrote top 10 things about me.

Ty wrote a few "facts" about me and gave me the cutest tile picture of him from school.

It is my most precious gift and highest calling to me called "mom" to these three.
I am beyond humbled and thankful for them. Mothers day Mothers day

First Ranger Game

We went to our first Ranger game with the kids and  it was SO fun!
We ended up not taking Dylan with us because it is hard enough keeping him entertained during Ty's one hour baseball class that I knew he would never make it for hours, during naptime, in the sun.
So it was a big-kid only treat.

The game we went to was on Sean Ryan's birthday so we all got together and went through group tickets.
It was surprisingly super calm with all the kiddos in one area and so fun to see his name on the center field screen during 7th inning stretch.
